Starting Out
In our first few lessons of starting A View from the Bridge, we sat down and read through the play as a class. I was struggling with an American accent so I just read out the stage directions throughout and listened to other peoples accents and how they interpreted this accent within the book. It took a while to read as a class since we only have 1 hour lessons and would read it for two lessons a week. At first the single students were not in the piece until a few weeks ago. This meant that they didn't know what the play was about and had to read it in their own time.
After we read the book we left it alone for a while in lessons. We started to study for other performances and rehearse in those lessons. This took a lot of time away from us so we have only just had the time to start the piece.
Once we got back on track with A View from the Bridge, we decided who would play each part. We started off with 2 girls playing Beatrice and 4 girls playing Catherine. But I found this hard to split up the 13 extracts between each person. So, instead I said that there should be 3 girls to play Beatrice and 3 girls playing Catherine. This meant that the book could be split up into 3 sections and one Catherine was partnered up with one Beatrice. We have roughly 4/5 extracts each now which are all quite long.
